the music PROGRAM

The foundation provides a real "hands-on" opportunity to learn a musical instrument and to participate in live performances.

Our organization serves children attending Title 1 public schools with a diverse ethnic and socioeconomic student population. The elementary school population we serve is predominantly 44% Latinos, 14% Caucasians, 15% Asians, 12% African-Americans and 15% Filipinos with a similar middle school population. In addition, approximately 56% of this population is eligible for reduced or free lunch.

In accordance with the California Department of Education Music Content Standards, there will be two areas of standards taught. First, is Artistic Perception, 1.0-1.3 (Read and Notate Music). Second, is Creative Expression, 2.0 & 2.2, (Performing and Participating in Music). Applying these standards will be the primary objective of instructions. Students should be able to demonstrate basic standard techniques of effective playing as a measurable outcome and successfully perform a few songs for their culminating task.
