ABOUT US
The Knights of Music Foundation is a nonprofit 501c(3) organization, founded in September 2003 to foster a love and desire for music in all youth living in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. The foundation provides a real "hands-on" opportunity to learn a musical instrument and to participate in live performances.
The promotion of music education, providing access and opportunity to under-served schools contribute to creating a lasting and positive change in our youth. Our efforts point to quantifiable and measurable achievements in independent study skills, positive attitudes toward school, improved self-esteem and personal responsibility. Recent scientific study and results have shown that children exposed to a multi-year program of music education that involve training in rhythmic and tonal concepts have higher cognitive performance in reading skills compared with non-musically trained peers (Piro & Ortiz, 2009).
OUR MISSION
To foster a love and desire for music in all youth living in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, to introduce literacy to children in public schools, and to increase the number of children playing a musical intruments in the Los Angeles Unified School district.
OUR VISION
The Knights of Music Foundation seeks to build a feeling of community amongst our students and families. That sense of community carries through to our teachers, our board and our relationships with community partners and sponsors. We want to help our students to learn to collaborate with one another in classes, orchestras and within their own families. Through learning to play an instrument we want our students to learn to take responsibility for their own growth and development. As they develop, they realize their responsibility to lend a hand and "give back" to their community. Our students to become functional and responsible members of society.
